PLANET4US - Urban Biodiversity and Inclusive Local Action

In Uzbek cities, the diversity of animal and plant species and their habitats is declining. Heatwaves are becoming more frequent and have stronger effects in densely built urban areas. Urban development is changing green and open spaces. National biodiversity strategies are in place. However, implementation at the local level and the involvement of citizens remain limited. The project strengthens biodiversity in medium-sized cities. It actively involves citizens, civil society organisations, and local authorities in climate and nature-related measures. It uses learning groups, trainings, and small-scale projects for this purpose. Participants develop and test local pilot measures such as green corridors in the city. Professionals are trained, and study visits take place. Trained actors share knowledge within their networks. Results are documented and made accessible. This creates transferable approaches for other cities.
