From NBSAPs to Action: Scaling Biodiversity Solutions through Country Learning
The first global review of progress towards implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) highlights the urgent need to accelerate action and strengthen enabling conditions for implementation. Beyond finance, policy and capacity, a critical challenge is ensuring that experiential knowledge is systematically captured, shared and translated into action. The GBF Knowledge Management Strategy provides the guidance for this, and GBF Target 21 the mandate. Countries and stakeholders are generating valuable lessons through NBSAP implementation, yet opportunities for structured learning, adaptation and scaling remain uneven.
This side event will explore how knowledge management, peer learning and solution exchange can support more effective implementation of the GBF. Bringing together representatives from several Parties, alongside the CBD Secretariat, GIZ, IUCN, UNDP and other partners, the discussion will examine how practical experience from diverse ecological, social and governance contexts can inform and accelerate action towards national biodiversity targets.
The session will focus on how implementation knowledge can be made more accessible, actionable and relevant to country needs. Through country perspectives and practical examples, participants will discuss approaches for identifying proven practices, adapting them to local contexts, supporting replication and scaling, strengthening communities of practice, and generating implementation-focused learning that can inform policy and decision-making. Particular attention will be given to the role of knowledge management in supporting NBSAP implementation, capacity development, South-South and peer-to-peer cooperation, and the broader objectives of the GBF Knowledge Management Strategy.
Drawing on experiences from the PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet initiative and other collaborative knowledge-sharing efforts, the event will highlight how structured approaches to documenting, exchanging and applying implementation experience can help bridge the gap between commitments and action. It will conclude by identifying opportunities for stronger collaboration among Parties, practitioners, knowledge partners and funders to enhance learning, accelerate implementation and support progress towards the goals and targets of the GBF.
