IKI Gender Community of Practice #7 – Nexus Gender and Climate Finance

The IKI Gender Community of Practice (IKI GCoP) is a format designed to support implementing organisations and enhance knowledge exchange and lessons learned regarding their experiences in implementing the IKI gender strategy and promoting gender justice within their projects. The IKI GCoP is a regular and interactive event open for all IKI implementing organisations, co-hosted by the IKI Office and IKI implementers.

At our next Gender CoP, we turn our attention to the role of gender within the context of climate finance. To ensure that climate protection programmes meet their goals in an effective and sustainable way, it is of central importance that gender equality, women’s empowerment and access to finance are included in its design, implementation, and decision-making processes. . By integrating the gender perspective into climate finance concepts, the following two projects work to overcome barriers and promote sustainable, equitable solutions:

  • Inclusive Green Finance Project (Phase III), carried out by Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), constitutes a global platform for financial inclusion, bringing together central banks, financial ministries, regulatory authorities and further and other relevant stakeholders from more than 80 countries. The project fosters capacity building regarding financial inclusion, resource sharing and co-development of strategies to combat climate change among its members.
  • Inclusive Climate Finance for Vulnerable Communities in Asia-Pacific (ICCAP), carried out by Stockholm Environment Institute, aims to enhance international and national private and public climate finance flows to climate-vulnerable communities. The project uses a stakeholder-centred approach to co-develop and consolidate the pipeline of inclusive finance to adaptation solutions. Integral part of this approach is to build Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) measures into every part of the project, with the aim of making climate finance work for those who need it most.

Each project will share their lessons learned, success stories and maybe challenges and explain how their work addresses the nexus of gender and climate finance. Join us for an interesting exchange and the chance to explore how gender and climate finance initiatives can create lasting impact.

We are thrilled to feature their insights and experiences on the following dates:
