Climate Protection in Nature-Based Tourism

The project aimed to contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Thailand by helping the Thai partners to take into account aspects of climate change and nature conservation when preparing and implementing tourism development plans within the context of a national strategy. The project partners were testing management tools for sustainable tourism development in the pilot region of Ko Chang. Furthermore, the project partners were seeking to build capacity among the relevant authorities and raise awareness among policymakers of the impact of climate change on the tourism sector.

Climate mitigation aspects integrated into masterplan for tourism development in the pilot region
Implementation of feasibility study 'Development of a traffic and transport management system for the island of Ko Chang to reduce CO2 emissions in this sector'
Awareness raised among decision-makers on the development of a green marketing strategy, hotel and resort operators were awarded 'Green Leaf' certification during these activities
Creation of the inter-administrative working group 'Low Carbon Tourism'
