Deep Decarbonisation Innovation for Steel and Cement Industries (DDI)

The steel, metals, and cement sectors account for approximately 75% of Brazil’s industrial GHG emissions. Brazil has strong decarbonisation potential thanks to abundant renewable energies, alternative raw materials, and the possibility to produce low-cost green hydrogen. Still, industries face hurdles in proving the technical and economic viability of decarbonisation solutions and in securing large-scale investments. This project will improve the enabling environment by fostering public policy dialogue, supporting breakthrough innovations, and strengthening technical expertise on low-carbon production methods for steel and cement. It will prove the business case for decarbonisation demonstration plants and unlock investments through tailored financial instruments, while stimulating demand from offtakers. The project will also deepen Brazil–Germany/EU supply chain integration and embed diversity and gender equality across all decarbonisation activities.
