Using sustainable agriculture practices to protect pollinating insects and other animals in Selva Maya
Pollinators (insects and other animals) play an important role for plants and biodiversity, as well as for agriculture in the Selva Maya region, whose habitat is being increasingly affected and reduced. Protecting biodiversity, mitigating the effects of climate change, and making agriculture more sustainable and pollinator-friendly are therefore critical. The project sensitizes smallholder farmers and their families as a whole to the protection of pollinators and their habitats, and teaches appropriate, compatible farming practices that also provide an economic incentive by increasing income through higher quality.
