Biodiverse Cities – Resilient Cities (BC-RC) Costa Rica

A growing local economy, accelerated urbanisation and climate change are leading to the loss of natural habitats and deteriorating ecosystem services in Costa Rica's coastal regions. At the same time, the urban population is dependent on the surrounding ecosystems. Urban planning and development do not yet take into account the synergies between biodiversity and the resilience of the population. The project therefore supports the integration of biodiversity and climate resilience aspects into local planning instruments. It identifies and implements measures and strategies to safeguard biodiversity and ecosystem services In selected coastal regions on the Pacific coast. By strengthening governance mechanisms and public-private initiatives, local ownership and the involvement of particularly vulnerable population groups are being promoted.
