Accelerating implementation of South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET IP)

South Africa has developed a Just Energy Transition (JET) Investment Plan and a JET Implementation Plan designed to mobilise approximately USD100 billion in investment to achieve the country’s nationally determined contribution targets by 2030. This project helps to accelerate the implementation of South Africa’s JET by supporting the capacity of 20 municipalities to plan their electricity distribution grid upgrades for renewable energy uptake. Parallel to this, the project provides for a series of evaluations to be conducted over three years on the implementation of the JET Investment Plan, supporting its continuous improvement. The project also establishes a national JET Investments Register to create visibility of the financing mobilised whilst ensuring just outcomes for affected communities, workers, and sectors.
