Raising awareness on climate change adaptation to restore and preserve water and soil resources

Climate change and droughts impact the livelihoods of inhabitants of Tlalnepantla/Mexico of which 90 % depend on small-scale farming and ca. 70 % are poor. Water scarcity and increasing pests are directly linked to reduced forests and lack of awareness. The project focuses on awareness raising with a particular focus on school, students and their parents. It seeks to develop capacities to generate collective participation projects that restore the ecosystem and increase its adaptive capacity, promote the conservation of biological diversity in the countryside and forests, and supports farmers in their transition to better agricultural practices. Measures include awareness and implementation of actions that contribute to climate change adaptation, especially in the efforts to preserve soil and water ressources. The aim of the project is to scale the approach to other areas in Mexico, based on the outcome of this project and subject to the mobilization of additional resources.
