Scaling up the Nature Investment Facility

The current biodiversity financing gap is estimated at approximately USD 700 billion per year. The Nature Investment Facility (NIF) catalyses large-scale investment that reduce threats to at-risk ecosystems within World Heritage landscapes and Key Biodiversity Areas, while transforming harmful sectors and protecting nature for people in up to six countries. NIF works closely with national governments and financial institutions to strengthen capacities and establish enabling policy, regulatory, and financial frameworks, including the development of blended finance instruments. Large-scale landscape conservation initiatives are supported to reach investment-ready stages, while fit-for-purpose financing vehicles will mobilise capital at scale. Successful approaches will be scaled up and replicated to maximise impact.
