Latin America and The Caribbean Power Transmission Acceleration Platform (PTAP)

Outdated and overloaded transmission grids are hindering the expansion of renewable energies and are also vulnerable to climate-related stress events such as droughts, heat waves and storms. The Platform for Accelerating Transmission of Power (PTAP) supports governments, regulatory authorities and grid operators in overcoming these obstacles. This includes improved regulatory frameworks, financing models and technological support. An additional workstream supports the 16 RELAC countries in implementing flexibility and resilience measures to achieve their shared goal of 80% renewable electricity by 2030. The platform also implements demonstration projects and provides political and regulatory support. Through these measures, it contributes to building a climate-friendly and resilient electricity grid, promoting regional cooperation and knowledge exchange, and developing scalable models for other countries.
