Protecting people with disabilities from the effects of climate change and natural disasters
Vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities, are often affected by climate change and, depending on the nature of their disability, may be particularly vulnerable to heat waves, water shortages and other health risks exacerbated by climate change. Despite the existing legal framework and tools for disaster management in Nigeria, there have been few or no interventions and innovative solutions aimed at including persons with disabilities in protecting them from climate-related disasters. The project collects targeted data, involves those affected and raises awareness of the needs of climate change practitioners and policy makers more systematically. The project also develops a more accessible range of information on climate change and disaster prevention for people with disabilities and creates job opportunities for them in the field of renewable energies.
