Safeguarding local agricultural production and resilience in Benin’s climate vulnerable communities

Climate-vulnerable communities in Benin face increasing challenges due to changing weather patterns and environmental pressures. To address these threats, Benin’s National Fund for Environment and Climate (FNEC) has been commissioned to establish a funding programme to safeguard local agricultural production by promoting sustainable and resilient adaptation practices. Following the successful first funding cycle (2021–2024), the second funding cycle supports project ideas relating to food security, livestock management and forest ecosystem preservation. Key interventions involve capacity building for vulnerable communities on resilient agricultural practices. The projects work with cattle farmers to promote the conservation of natural resources. Local communities are also empowered to jointly manage and protect their forest ecosystems.
