IKI-Interface Project: Industry Transition and Biodiversity Conservation
India's NDC targets aim to reduce GDP emissions intensity by 47 per cent and create a carbon sink of 3.5 to 4.0 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent, in line with national biodiversity strategy targets. The project supports the Government of India in guiding energy intensive industries such as steel, construction, and cement toward a low carbon transition, and to build the case for investments that reduce carbon emissions. It supports public and private enterprises to assess biodiversity and ecosystem impacts and mitigate them through nature based solutions. Additionally, it fosters youth engagement for their meaningful participation in climate and biodiversity action. As an Interface project, it also promotes political dialogue between India and Germany on climate change and biodiversity, as well as knowledge exchange and networking among IKI projects.
