Solar-hybrid microturbine systems for cogeneration in agro-industrial electricity and heat production (SMILE)

At the start of the project, Brazil intended to reduce its climate impact by employing more renewable energies. The project supported local partners to build two small concentrated solar power plants. Such plants use movable mirror systems to concentrate solar energy on one point on a tower and produce energy highly efficiently. The plants were to cogenerate electricity and heat based on micro-turbines and supply the agro-industry. The project provided local partners with the knowledge to build small solar thermal power plants and supported them in the construction of the plants. By the end of the project, the construction of the plants had not yet been completed and was to be continued by the local partners.
