Energizing climate policies - bringing the GST energy package into the climate policy cycle
The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue and the Berlin Energy Week aim to serve as a kick off to turn the historic COP28 agreement into action. The Global Stocktake outcome accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels, tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency progress needs to be turned into tangible action and practical pathways now.
At the same time, countries are now in the process of translating national climate goals into new “Nationally Determined Contributions” (NDCs) that cover the time until 2035. Hence, the coming months are crucial for intertwining the momentum on these two areas.
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) would like to use the opportunity to discuss how we can best use these threads to support ambitious, actionable new NDCs with strong energy targets. Also, in the context of the work of the IKI we would like to reflect how we can best support developing and emerging countries and build more effective, strategic cooperation for greater impact in order to accelerate the energy transition in scale and speed necessary.
In this spirit, the IKI invites to this discussion on energizing climate policies. The event takes place under the Chatham House Rules.
Participation is by invitation only.
