Moving forward on NbS and Ecosystem-based Approaches for Adaptation: lessons learned and promising practices

UNEP’s Adaptation Gap Report 2023 clearly states that the progress on climate adaptation is slowing on all fronts when it should be accelerating to catch up with rising climate impacts. The report outlines that the adaptation finance needs of developing countries are 10-18 times as great as international public finance flows and that the adaptation planning and implementation seem to be plateauing despite the increased need for adaptation action.

This high-level event with technical focus will bring together the experience of implementing NbS and ecosystem-based approaches for climate adaptation and resilience of various actors and pinpoint critical actions for the way forward.

The panel will stress the need for coherent and simultaneous action to achieve the interlinked climate and biodiversity goals and will cover the topic of integration in policy, implementation and investment.
