Scaling up biodiversity finance: From finance plans to market disclosures

Biodiversity loss threatens economies and livelihoods worldwide, yet most countries still lack the finance to implement their national biodiversity strategies.

Two IKI-funded initiatives are tackling this gap from different angles. BIOFIN II helps partner countries plan, mobilise and align public and private finance for biodiversity, using tools such as biodiversity expenditure reviews and Biodiversity Finance Plans. The IKI-TNFD project works with the private sector, helping businesses and financial institutions adopt the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework, so that capital markets can better price nature-related risks and redirect finance towards nature-positive outcomes. South Africa is one of the countries where both projects run side by side, offering a rare look at how public finance planning and private market disclosure can reinforce each other in practice.

This IKI Brown Bag Lunch introduces both initiatives, shares the South African experience, and opens a discussion on how biodiversity finance and nature-related disclosure can be connected across IKI's portfolio.

We invite you to attend this IKI Brown Bag Lunch to learn from the experiences of other projects and to engage in a rich discussion.
