Renewable energy for all through renovated power grids

Energy professionals can now acquire the crucial tools for the grid integration of renewable energy electricity and obtain for the first time an awarded certificate.

With a continuously increasing share of renewable technologies in the total energy supply mix, a growing effort on the integration of such technologies in the electricity grids is crucial. To make sure that professionals working in this sector have the necessary know-how, the Renewables Academy (RENAC) is now offering the worldwide first opportunity to become a "Certified ReGrid Manager" (CRGM). This new qualification aims at a greater and better integration of renewable energies into the electricity grid, supporting the transportation of the energy efficiently to the consumers, and also helping to improve the reliability of renewable energy sources. The new qualification measure is directed towards professionals in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia who are working for ministries or administrations, electricity providers, grid operators, energy utilities, financing institutions or companies in the renewables sector. It has been developed within the RENAC ReGrid project. ReGrid is supported by the German International Climate Initiative, a programme of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Power grids are facing a major transformation, driven by the need to integrate fluctuating renewable energy electricity. Often, electricity needs to be transported over large distances, as big wind or solar parks might be situated in remote areas. Participants learn online how to avoid problems that might occur in the electrical system due to an increase in the penetration of renewable energies into the energy mix, studying measures on how to appropriately manage the system.
