The IKI at the Federal Government Open Day: Dialogue, Insights and Creativity
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) was also represented at the Federal Government's Open Day and used the opportunity to engage in dialogue with citizens.
The new Federal Government opened its doors over the weekend: around 100,000 visitors streamed into the Federal Ministries and the Federal Press and Information Office. The IKI was represented at the "Foreign Climate Policy" stand in the Federal Foreign Office.
Our aim was to raise awareness of the IKI as an international funding programme in Germany and to give an insight into our work. A special highlight was our hands-on station for children: in a painting and craft workshop, they designed colouring sheets on the theme of "My contribution to climate action". This was a child-friendly way of introducing topics such as renewable energy, clean transport and reforestation. The children used crayons and stickers to get creative about climate action and biodiversity. Our quiz, which we prepared together with the Federal Foreign Office, also aroused interest.
Many guests took the opportunity to learn more about IKI's work: some wanted to know in general terms how IKI promotes climate action and biodiversity worldwide, while others asked very specific questions about funding opportunities or projects in a particular country. During the discussions, we were able to illustrate how IKI funds are making a difference in Asia, Africa and South America, for example through the development of renewable energy, nature conservation and sustainable agriculture.
We would like to thank all visitors for their interest, the many interesting questions and the open dialogue. It was a pleasure to showcase the diversity of our work and to see that climate change and biodiversity were met with so much curiosity and approval.
