This technical assessment examines the financing context of Beach Management Units (BMUs) managing Locally Managed Marine Areas and Marine Protected Areas in Kwale County, Kenya. It analyses existing funding sources, financial gaps and governance challenges, and identifies opportunities such as tourism, ecosystem restoration, mariculture and temporary closures to strengthen long-term financial sustainability of community-based marine management.
