Typhoon Risk Insurance for Marine Protected Areas in the Philippines – A Pre-feasibility Study

The Philippines is host to over 1.800 marine protected areas (MPAs). These MPAs face an increasing threat from typhoons which can severely damage mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass meadows. Many MPA management organisations are underfunded and struggle to replace lost monitoring assets and finance rehabilitation work. E4DR commissioned this pre-feasibility study to analyze the potential of new insurance solutions to assist MPAs bounce back quickly after typhoon events and analyze its impact on conservation outcomes.
