Green fix for food transport
On the way to the supermarket food has to keep cool to stay fresh. Food-cooling trucks and containers usually operate with coolants that act as greenhouse gases nearly 3,900 times stronger than carbon dioxide. A firm in South Africa has developed a ’green’ cooling system that should keep food fresh and cut down on emissions. The system was developed together with the project “Development of innovative logistics and supply structures in the refrigerated transport sector in South Africa”, which is funded by the German Environment Ministry (BMUB) under its International Climate Initiative (IKI). This green idea should now be exported around the world.
