Adaptation Fund
The Adaptation Fund (AF) was established in 2001 under the Kyoto Protocol of the UNFCCC and has been anchored in the Paris Climate Agreement since 2019. The Fund supports developing countries severely affected by climate change in implementing concrete and innovative adaptation measures. Since 2010, a total of approximately USD 1.3 billion has been made available for 183 adaptation projects in approximately 100 countries. The Fund has established itself as an important multilateral financing instrument due to its unique features and strengths in financing and administration. Compared to other institutions of its kind, the AF stands out for its agility and easy access to funding.
