Biodiverse Cities – Resilient Cities (BC-RC) Costa Rica

The project supports Costa Rica in strengthening the resilience of the population in intermediate and emergent cities to climate change through the conservation, rehabilitation, and sustainable use of biodiversity. To achieve this, it focuses on improving multi-level planning instruments for urban areas and their surroundings to include gender-responsive strategies and actions for conserving, rehabilitating and sustainably managing biodiversity, leading to climate action. The project supports key actors from the public sector, private sector and civil society to implement these actions, amongst others, in urban areas, wetlands, mangroves and bio-corridors and strengthens governance mechanisms to plan and implement policies, planning instruments and actions to improve biodiversity for enhanced resilience to climate change. In addition, the project incorporates several cross-cutting issues, including gender equity, finance, knowledge exchange and capacity development.
