Climate-Neutral Energy Supply for Rural Areas
The project developed tailor-made and sustainable solutions for rural energy supply that make use of locally available biomass as well as other renewable energy sources. The biomass consists solely of agricultural waste and does not include edible vegetable oils. Two pilot projects covering 30 villages were used to develop business models for energy services that are made available by the village community. This included the sustainable supply of biomass for power generation, operation and maintenance of the plant and equipment, and the distribution and use of the power, along with an appropriate system of payment.

- Project completed
- The project focuses on supporting sustainable rural electricity generation and its productive usage.
- The challenges that arose during the course of the project were overcome through close cooperation among the Indian and German project partners at the national and regional levels.
- The project has significant potential, extending beyond direct impacts in its immediate surroundings, as a best practice that can be replicated throughout the (South-East) Asian region.
