Connecting protected areas in a puma bio-corridor to manage impacts of fragmenting, deforesting and degrading

Ecosystem fragmentation, deforestation and paramos degradation are the result of the lack of territorial and environmental planning. This endangers the supply of ecosystem services. This project connects seven protected areas in the Andes by a puma corridor to enable migration of the highly endangered pumas. This creates a habitat that is also of great ecological importance with its services in very different climate zones along the Andes to Amazonia. It is also intended to include Colombia and Peru as a strategic and prospective pilot project. Thereby, ecosystems are protected and genetic exchange between puma populations stabilizes these. Connecting different stakeholders fosters scaling up project approaches.
