Enhancing Protected Area Mangement and supporting climate change adaptation of climatically vulnerable ecosystems of India
A study funded by BMU provided data to identify some of the most critical issues and sites for enhanced climate change adaptation, where it was apparent that climate impacts rendered communities and ecosystems more vulnerable unless certain practices are modified. However, more detailed studies are needed to further refine strategies, and to identify and prioritise additional vulnerable areas and communities. A feasibility study and a preliminary climate vulnerability assessment were therefore financed, as well as a first implementation of pilots on a minor scale in already identified sectors and regions. Based on the results of the study, planned interventions can be adjusted and further proposals for adequate investment measures were formulated.

State of implementation/results
- Project completed
- Study with three components compiled: Vulnerability analysis of population and ecosystems; derivation of possible investment measures; derivation of pilot measures
- Study results made an important contribution to the preparation of a climate adaptation programme (GIZ and KfW) in the same region, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); information is available to the governments of the two states Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in north-eastern India in the development of adaptation strategies to climate change.
