Integrated Protection Area for the Ngiri Lowland Rainforest

The project aimed at conserving the forests in the Ngiri Triangle and their biological diversity. It promoted the function of these forests as carbon reservoirs and with regard to water regime regulation. The project assisted the establishment of the Ngiri Triangle protected area and improved protected area management. The local population was involved directly in the project and its interests were taken into account. The project partners developed and strengthened participatory bodies, and optimised land and resource use in order to avoid any additional appropriation of land. This work also raised the standard of living across the project region.
