PacFresH2O – Protecting freshwater resources for increased climate resilience in the Pacific Islands

Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea have limited access to safe drinking water. The project will improve existing rural water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems and tap into new water resources to enable communities to better cope with changing climate conditions and extreme weather events, resulting in increased resilience. Planning processes that consider climate risks related adaptation measures will be strengthened. Partners responsible for key climate policy documents will be engaged in mainstreaming, knowledge sharing and replication to contribute to national development targets. Capacity building at national and local levels, especially among marginalized groups, will focus on evidence-based decision making in water management. The project will also demonstrate the potential of underutilized water resources, innovative sanitation systems, improved governance, and access to climate finance for wider impact and potential replication at national and regional levels.
