Participatory Forest Landscape Restoration of Deng Deng National Park
Cameroon's Deng Deng National Park (DDNP) spans around 500,000 hectares and encompasses both savannah and dense rainforest areas. Main economic activities are logging, agriculture, and mining. Unsustainable management practices and an increasing deforestation threaten the local ecosystem. This project realises community-based restoration of degraded forest areas in DDNP collaborating with key stakeholders, including communities, conservation services, and authorities. Landscape analysis and participatory mapping help identifying areas for restoration. Project activities include training of actors, developing a joint action plan, and preparing local development and sustainability plans for three villages. Especially women and youth engage in seedling production, running tree nurseries, and planting seedlings in degraded areas. Project results are communicated nationally and internationally. Awareness-raising campaigns and a final workshop support disseminating results.
