"Pigs for Kilowatt" - Utilising Pig Slurry to Produce Biogas

The project analysed the technical and financial aspects involved in planning a biogas plant for one of Serbia’s largest pig farms. Conducive investment conditions were being created to make this into a beacon project that would serve as an example of biogas use in Serbia. The project developed a pilot Project Design Document (PDD) in preparation for its registration as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project, along with a feasibility study that factors in technical and financial elements. This included, for example, examining available substrates to establish whether they were usable and reviewing a range of technical solutions. A workshop was held to make the findings of the study available to government representatives, other pig farms and local banks to ensure that the technical and financial aspects of the idea could be replicated.
