Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through waste management in banana cultivation
Waste in agriculture contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. The project uses waste from banana cultivation to produce sustainable resources and products. For example, yarn, textiles, packaging material, and fertilisers can be produced from the waste. The project initiates a pilot application for the production of banana fibres in a local community. It trains members of the community, particularly women and other disadvantaged groups, in fibre extraction, the development of new products, and market access. At the same time, the project raises awareness of products made from banana fibres. It creates distribution channels, including participation in a trade fair. Furthermore, it installs kiosks in hotels that sell banana fibre products to tourists.
