Regional Collaboration on Global Carbon Markets (RC-GCM)

Southeast Asia has high greenhouse gas emissions but is pursuing increasingly ambitious climate goals. Rice cultivation is a major contributor to the region’s emissions. Carbon markets and carbon pricing are gaining importance as cost-effective tools to reduce emissions and to mobilize private investments in climate action. The project supports partner countries in strengthening their capacities for market-based climate instruments, with a focus on the agriculture sector. A pilot project in rice cultivation provides practical experience with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. In addition, the project promotes regional cooperation on carbon markets and fosters exchange with established alliances in Africa and the Caribbean.
