Waste Treatment Centre in the Marga-Marga Region

The project purpose was to introduce sustainable waste management practices, involving recovery of both materials and energy from municipal solid wastes (MSW), in the territory served by the municipal utility association of Marga-Marga in the Valparaíso region. As a pilot activity, a treatment centre for approx. 100,000 t/yr MSW was established. The plan envisaged the construction of a mechanical-biological waste treatment facility generating biogas and a fermentation system producing high-grade fertiliser combined with a training centre for experts and decision-makers.
