Constructing bird sanctuaries to develop protected wetlands areas in Zakarpattia
The project establishes two bird sanctuaries in formerly degraded but now ecologically important wetlands. Initially, the local biodiversity will be examined, and local and regional authorities will be involved in the development of the proposed protected areas. Furthermore, materials for information and awareness raising are to be produced. Finally, it is planned to build an infrastructure for bird watching, which is not yet very common in Ukraine (rather bird hunting). This infrastructure can then also be used for tourism. Above all, however, teachers and school classes are to be addressed first, for whom appropriate information materials are to be developed. In addition, an information campaign will focus on the importance of protecting wetlands for birds and the Kunming Agreement
