Come travel the world with the IKI!

The International Climate Initiative (IKI) has an important role to play in fulfilling the Federal Government’s international obligations to support developing and emerging countries.

The German government uses the IKI to fund projects aimed at tackling climate change and protecting biodiversity in African, Asian and Latin American countries.

The activities pursued in IKI projects may include advising policymakers on capacitiy building and the establishment of technology partnerships, for example, as well as using innovative financial instruments to hedge against risks. Projects may also involve studies, consulting on project preparation for infrastructure development and investment instruments for climate change mitigation or biodiversity conservation.
To date, the IKI has approved more than 800 climate and biodiversity projects in over 60 countries worldwide, with a total funding volume of EUR 5 billion (2008 to 2021). Follow this link to find out how the IKI is set up, how it works and which safeguards it makes use of to achieve the best-possible project results in countries all over the world.

The stand in the Ministry for Economic Affairs focuses on the IKI’s global efforts addressing energy supplies and energy efficiency, as well as other topics involving the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

A trio of tables has also been set up to take you on a journey around the world – letting you discover how our local projects engage with strategies for curbing climate change.
