Advancing Carbon Pricing and Article 6 Implementation: Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Collaborative Instruments for Ambitious Climate Action

Carbon pricing instruments and carbon markets are increasingly being pursued as key mitigation policies in developing countries. Translating these instruments into practice, however, requires sound analysis, institutional readiness and close cooperation between governments and partners.

The Collaborative Instruments for Ambitious Climate Action (CiACA) initiative is funded by the Government of Germany and implemented through six UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centres (RCCs). CiACA guides countries through the consideration, design and implementation of carbon pricing instruments as a means to achieve and raise the ambition of their nationally determined contributions (NDCs).

Marking ten years of CiACA, this event will present examples of efforts by countries to consider and adopt carbon pricing and carbon market instruments. Various Parties supported by CiACA will share their experiences and lessons learned in exploring and implementing carbon pricing instruments to achieve their climate commitments. They will be joined by representatives of the Government of Germany as CiACA donor.

The discussion will also address how domestic carbon pricing instruments link with carbon markets and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The event aims to:

• Increase awareness of the CiACA initiative and its support for carbon pricing instruments and carbon markets
• Share experiences, good practices and lessons learned from CiACA-supported activities
• Improve participants’ understanding of carbon pricing instruments and their links with carbon markets and Article 6
• Promote knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders

The event is open to representatives from Parties, government agencies, regional organizations, development partners, the private sector, carbon market practitioners and other stakeholders interested in carbon pricing instruments, carbon markets and Article 6.
