Decarbonising the Buildings Sector with Carbon Markets: A Policymaker Exchange on Setting Up Enabling Environments, from Fundamentals to Baseline Data

Buildings are responsible for nearly 34% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions and 32% of energy demand, yet the sector remains severely underfinanced for decarbonization. Article 6 of the Paris Agreement provides a key mechanism for developing countries to bridge this gap, but only where robust institutional structures, reliable data, and viable projects exist.

As part of the GIZ Carbon Market Week, our event will gather policymakers from credit-buying and PEEB-partner selling countries, carbon finance specialists, and technical experts to discuss how to unlock carbon finance for sustainable buildings. Institutions confirmed include the Environment Ministries from Germany, Morocco, and Tunisia, as well the International Finance Corporation and leading Think Tanks.
