Enabling Nature-based Solutions for Global Biodiversity Framework action and reporting: Launch of the Global NbS Navigator

Nature-based Solutions (NbS) have been recognized across the three Rio Conventions as valuable actions to drive progress towards their goals. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) sets ambitious targets for ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection, as well as inclusive and beneficial approaches. However, countries face significant barriers in tracking and scaling NbS: fragmented data systems, limited institutional capacity, unclear guidance on what constitutes a credible NbS intervention, and difficulty in accessing finance.

The Global NbS Navigator, funded through Germany's International Climate Initiative (IKI), addresses these challenges by creating an integrated digital platform and supporting a set of complementary enabling conditions: national guidance, capacity building, investment frameworks, and high-level political engagement.

This event will highlight how NbS can more effectively contribute to national biodiversity strategies and action plans, and to GBF implementation and reporting, through this shared platform and context-specific capacity building efforts.
