Advancing Article 6 in Practice: From Rulebook to Implementation
Following the completion of the Article 6 rulebook at COP29, countries worldwide are now advancing their readiness for the implementation of Article 6 cooperative approaches. This creates new opportunities for countries to leverage Article 6 to mobilize investment, operationalize international carbon markets and translate policy frameworks into concrete climate action on the ground.
This Brown Bag Lunch will present key insights from the SPAR6C project, supported by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), which assists four partner countries (Colombia, Pakistan, Thailand, Zambia) in strengthening readiness for Article 6 by building capacities for its effective implementation.
The session will cover:
- How SPAR6C supports countries in strengthening mid- and long-term emissions planning, developing their national Article 6 frameworks and advancing pilot carbon projects
- The role of capacity building in enabling countries to access carbon markets
- Practical experiences from partner countries, with a focus on Zambia as a frontrunner in operationalizing Article 6, including lessons learned from concluding bilateral agreements with buyer countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway.
The Brown Bag Lunch is aimed at policymakers, carbon market and climate finance experts, project developers, and practitioners interested in the practical implementation of Article 6.
Join the discussion to explore how capacity building and international cooperation can accelerate the transition from rule-setting to carbon market transactions.
