There are massive investment needs for financing the climate transition in emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs) that go far beyond available public funds. To close the financial gap, it becomes crucial to use public funds efficiently to leverage and crowd-in private capital for climate investments. At the same time there is a need to develop sound climate projects on the ground. IKI engages in financing project development in the early stages where investments are the riskiest as well as investing in blended finance vehicles to mobilise private capital.
The event will showcase both early-stage project development financing and equity financing solutions supported by the IKI. The Seed Capital Assistance Facility (SCAF) supports private sector fund managers, platform managers and development companies active in the low-carbon sector by addressing the ‘early-stage financing gap’ in high-risk frontier markets with the aim to develop bankable investment opportunities. The Emerging Market Climate Action Fund (EMCAF) is an innovative blended finance Fund of Funds created in partnership by Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). EMCAF provides equity financing to greenfield climate mitigation and adaptation projects in EMDEs by backing investment fund managers and project developers active in this area.
We invite you to join this Brown Bag Lunch, learn about our experiences and engage in a discussion about the importance and potential of financing the climate transition.
