Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for sustainable and inclusive buildings and cooling
The event will begin with a fireside chat from country representatives about designing strong NDCs from the buildings sector. The discussion will cover critical aspects such as binding constraints, coordination needs across the full value chain of buildings and construction, and how effectively countries can integrate measures on improving the enabling environment, ensuring that NDCs are robust and impactful.
Building on the insights shared during the fireside chat, the session will transition to a panel discussion, highlighting practical recommendations from various initiatives designed to support policymakers and stakeholders in developing ambitious, implementable, fundable, and inclusive NDCs for the buildings sector. Key contributions include:
- PEEB/UNEP’s GlobalABC: Launching a set of practical guidelines to support the formulation of impactful NDCs, with a focus on key steps and a menu of policy options to ensure NDCs are ambitious, actionable, investable, and inclusive.
- The World Green Building Council: Presenting the ‘Sustainable Buildings Scorecard and Action Plan for NDCs and Policies.’ This Scorecard will help stakeholders support governments in enhancing their NDCs through both top-down and bottom-up approaches, leveraging existing national and local policies while facilitating gap analyses between these policies and NDC ambitions.
- IIGCC: Offering insights on how to make NDCs fundable from an investor’s perspective.
- Habitat for Humanity: Launching its paper on "Informality and Housing in NDCs," focusing on the critical role of addressing informal settlements in the context of NDCs.
