The art of urban transformation: Capturing change, inspiring innovation

Through a collection of images, this exhibition tells stories of urban transformation from the perspective of the communities experiencing it. Viewers are invited to look at how the photographs show how people are responding to urban change with ownership, creativity and collaboration. The communities' diverse experiences and perspectives translate complex urban challenges into stories that feel personal and accessible. The pictures also help illustrate what local climate action looks like on the ground and why its impact reaches far beyond city boundaries.

All images were collected through the Transformative Urban Coalitions (TUC) project in international photo contests, proving how visual storytelling opens space for dialogue, learning and reflection. Across the TUC project and its exhibitions presented at COP 27, COP 28, COP 29 and COP 30, visual narratives have helped connect socially inclusive urban climate action with meaningful engagement and participation. Seen together, these photographs support collective reflection and open shared possibilities for innovation towards more just and resilient urban futures.
