World Food Day at COP17 – Session II: Pollinator Protection and the Global Platform

As part of World Food Day at COP17, this session will explore how pollinator protection can strengthen food security, support sustainable agrifood systems and contribute to multiple targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The session will bring together perspectives from science, implementation, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and the private sector to discuss practical solutions for integrating pollinator conservation into agricultural production. Key topics will include reducing pesticide use, strengthening integrated pest management, promoting multifunctional landscapes and improving governance.

Organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and moderated by Alexander Haack (GIZ), the session will feature a keynote presentation followed by a panel discussion and audience participation. It will also examine the potential role of a Global Pollinator Platform in strengthening coordination, knowledge management and information exchange among governments and non-state actors.
