A journey through Middle East and Africa
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) is currently implementing 117 projects in countries in Africa and the Middle East. One point of focus for this project work is the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions: energy, cooling, transport, construction and urban development are equally important for many countries. Many of these projects therefore involve multiple countries or multiple continents.
Although South Africa is currently the only IKI priority country in the Middle East and Africa, some of the IKI’s key partners in shared efforts tackling climate change include Kenya, Morocco and Rwanda, for example. And the next UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) will also take place in Egypt – the first time this has been held in Africa.
IKI partner countries
The IKI works particularly closely with its priority countries. The selection of the priority countries resulted from an evaluation of the IKI.
