New IKI Projects on Maritime Transport, Financial Reforms and Renewable Energy
Here you will find an overview of the funding areas in which our latest projects have been launched.
Since 2008, the German Federal Government has been supporting climate action and biodiversity conversation through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). More than 1,100 projects in around 150 partner countries have been supported with a total of almost 8 billion euros.
The IKI is supporting three recently launched projects addressing climate action in Southeast Asia’s maritime transport sector, the development of green financial instruments in six countries and renewable energy use by industrial clients in Sub-Sahara Africa. The first project assists Southeast Asian countries to transform their maritime transport sector to a low-carbon future by providing capacity building, developing national action plans and other measures, while also establishing a regional knowledge network. The second project aims to strengthen the capacity of financial institutions to manage climate risk, promote innovative green financial instruments and ensure inclusive financing, in order to create sustainable investment portfolios and support systemic change. The third project involves transferring successful ‘clean captive installations’ models from a previous project, improving access to finance, expanding the necessary infrastructure, and facilitating knowledge exchange. This will provide industry and small and medium-sized enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa with reliable, cost-effective energy, reducing their dependence on diesel.

We look forward to working together and wish the IKI implementing organisations and their partners a good start to the project!
