Indigenous knowledge transmission on beekeeping
The Ogiek of Mt.Elgon are historically a hunter-gatherer and livestock keeping community. They have thrived due to rich indigenous knowledge in medicine, culture, food and weather patterns. The elders are custodians of this knowledge. The scene says how the Ogiek live. Harvest and care are the same act. Bees are not harmed and forest is not burned. This is why the community has lasted – their practices have always been towards conservation and their wellbeing tied to the wellbeing of the land.
