German Energy Academy (GEA) Jordan
At CoP27, the King of Jordan announced a 50 % renewable energy target by 2030. To achieve this, skilled workers with theoretical knowledge and practical experience to design, build, operate and maintain renewable energy and energy efficiency projects are needed. The German Energy Academy (GEA) Jordan should be established as an independent, regionally recognized and financially self-sufficient provider of training and further education on the energy transition. The project sets the basis for the GEA to act independently as a provider of practice-oriented and internationally accredited and certified qualifications for young people in Jordan. Collaborating with the private sector, it tailors training programmes according to the market needs, ensuring gender-responsive designs and safe learning environments for women. The project also supports the GEA to develop an outreach strategy and as well as e-learning formats to attract trainees from the region and allow a broader participation.

State of implementation/results
- The Jordanian partner institutions Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) and the German Jordanian University (GJU) have decided on the structure and legal basis of the German Energy Academy (GEA), which is currently in the process of being founded. Cooperation partners are the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACI) and the two German partners, the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) and ideas-into-energy (IIE). The Jordanian Ministry of Energy (MEMR) and the sponsoring German Ministry, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), represented by the Deputy Ambassador, form the Supervisory Board of GEA.
- Since January, 300 male and 150 female technicians have each received 240 hours of training on the topic of "green skills" at the GEA premises, with half of the participants coming from refugee communities in Jordan. The programme was commissioned by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) with support from the South Korean cooperation.
- In September, five university teachers from the Palestinian territories were trained in an intensive one-week course on the maintenance and repair of solar power systems.
- Between June and September, the project took part in four national trade fairs with its own stand. It has consolidated its network with private companies and attracted 250 new interested parties for training courses.
- In September, GEA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vocational Training Centre in Mafraq, Jordan, to offer practical training courses on the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. The courses comprise 240 hours and are aimed exclusively at technically trained men and women from Syria and Iraq who live in the Mafraq region.
