Restoring Pacific Islands for Nature and People

In Pacific Island countries and territories, invasive alien species (IAS) pose a significant threat to biodiversity, increase vulnerability to climate change, and also threaten island agriculture and human well-being. Limited awareness of IAS threatens livelihoods and undermines conservation efforts, climate change adaptation and sustainable development goals. Education on the impacts of IAS will facilitate the implementation of nationwide programs. Acceptance of IAS eradication and management projects as nature-based solutions to improve human health and food security will increase significantly. IAS-free islands will become ideal sites for the restoration of endangered species in Palau, Samoa, Tonga and Wallis & Futuna.
